Beauty Up Front
Those who don't know don't explore. Those who don't explore don't know. It's a vicious cycle. Like the life cycle of a plant. Seeds are made, the plant grows, flowers bloom, fruit grows, seeds fall out, and the plant dies. It goes over and over. But if the seeds don't fall, the cycle would end. I wish the seeds wouldn't fall so the cycle would end.
Two summers ago, we decided to make a garden, my two older sisters and me. We planned to dig out a load of dirt in a patch of earth in front of our house and make a flower garden. We planned to buy all types of flowers. Flor de Nochebuena, Cempasuchil, Plumeria, and Dahlia. It was going to be beautiful.
This past summer, Dani, Julia, and me finally followed through with our plan. It started with a trip to Home Depot to pick up some dirt and plants and other gardening stuff. Julia and me went while Dani found and prepared the supplies we had hidden away in our closet. No one in our family knew anything about gardens, but we all thought we did because we googled it right before we went to the store. We got all the supplies we needed and started digging.
We worked on digging for about a hundred hours. Maybe it was only one hour, but it felt like forever. Once the patch was free of trash, we placed the four different types of flowers in bunches. After placing them gently and filling in the holes with soil, we stood back and admired our work. We sighed and smiled as we saw our superior job well done.
While we delighted ourselves in our fresh garden, I realized the great amount of diversity in only four short feet of space. Not only the different types of flowers, but also each individual petal, stem, and leaf. No one was the same. Each one special and unique and amazing. Yeah. It's pretty amazing. It really is.
