All I Need is the Café This is an image of Vincent Van Gogh's famous oil painting known as Le Café de Nuit or The Night Café. When writing The House on Hind Drive, I always imagined myself working at one of the tables in this painting. The café is in my backyard on the lanai. I never stayed in Aina Haina, but instead traveled to France every time I wrote. However, I still was at home. I was still in paradise. I was also alone, but I didn't mind it. Being alone is always best when writing. Outside, on one of the French tables, just taking in the sun and clouds and breeze I works. The café is perfect for relaxing, reading, and yes writing. I sit and write at that table with my legs crossed over each other with my laptop on my lap for hours. The weather is always lovely and the environment is calming, which makes it perfect for writing. All I need is my laptop and café. Outside at the café if my ideas don't come bursting out of me right away, I know it isn't meant to be at that time. If I have to sit for hours hunched over, staring at my computer screen, searching for words, I know it isn't meant to be. With my writing, I don't want to be like so many writers or people that call themselves writers that are dull and boring. When it is truly the right time, the words will come out of me on their own. This philosophy helped me to write The House on Hind Drive without getting writer's block once, and it will help me to write more in the future. The café, my friends, family, and childhood experiences inspire this collection of short stories. Ranging from flower gardens to crazy tattoos, The House on Hind Drive is creative and can relate to everybody's inner child foolishness. The classic themes of childhood, beauty, and family make it timeless and perfect for everybody to read.
